Ingredients

  • 15ml of olive oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic, sliced
  • 1 onion, cut into large chunks
  • 255g of chicken (or any meat of your choice), cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 large potato, cut into large chunks
  • 1 carrot, cut into large chunks
  • 500ml of water
  • 15ml of honey
  • 38g of grated apple
  • ½ a large packet of Curry Roux (115g)

Directions

  • Pour the oil into the saucepot, heat it over medium heat, and add the sliced garlic.
  • Add the onion chunks once the garlic is fragrant.
  • Next, add the chicken. Once it’s lightly cooked, add the potato and carrot chunks and stir.
  • Let it cook for 2 to 3 minutes, then add the water, honey, and grated apple.
  • Bring it to a boil and then lower the heat to let it simmer until the potatoes are softened, and the other ingredients are cooked.
  • Turn off the heat, break the curry roux into pieces, and add them into the pot. Stir well to prevent any undissolved chunks.
  • Bring the curry to a simmer over low heat to thicken the sauce.

What to Serve Japanese Curry With?

Japanese curry is usually enjoyed with rice, but you can enjoy it in various ways. You can have it with udon, or you can use it to make fried rice, or you can reduce it into a thicker sauce and enjoy it with bread.
