Ingredients

  • 70g of butter, divided

Dough:

  • 500g of all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp of white sugar
  • 2 tsp of baking powder
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 3 tsp of butter, softened
  • 175ml of milk
  • 1 large egg

Filling:

  • 125g of white sugar
  • 125g of brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp of ground cinnamon

Cream Cheese Frosting (Optional):

  • 250ml of confectioners' sugar
  • 100g of cream cheese, softened
  • 70g of butter, softened
  • ½ tsp of vanilla extract

Cinnamon Roll Recipe

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 200°C. Prep your baking dish by brushing it with melted butter.
  • In a large bowl, whisk flour, white sugar, baking powder, and salt. Then, use your hands and thoroughly work the softened butter into the flour mixture.
  • In another large bowl, beat milk and egg together. Once beaten, dump the flour-butter mixture into the latter bowl and stir with a rubber spatula. Continue stirring until a soft dough forms.
  • Next, place the dough on a floured work surface and roll into a 1/4-inch thick rectangle with a rolling pin. With a pastry brush, brush the dough surface with butter.
  • For the filling, whisk white sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle this mixture in the bottom of your prepared baking dish, and sprinkle the remaining mixture over the dough.
  • Roll dough around filling to form a log, and cut it into 18 equal rolls and place them in the baking dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until rolls are set, for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Combine confectioners' sugar, cream cheese, softened butter, and vanilla extract in a medium bowl until frosting is smooth.
  • Drizzle the cream cheese frosting over the cooked cinnamon rolls.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy with a cup of coffee to balance the sweetness!
