Directions

  • First, preheat the oven to 200°C.
  • In a saucepan, melt the butter and stir in flour to form a paste. Next, add water, white sugar and brown sugar, and stir. Bring to a boil, then reduce the temperature and let the mixture simmer.
  • Place the bottom crust in your pie pan and fill it with apples. Top with a lattice pie crust. Once done, slowly pour the sugar and butter liquid all over the crust.
  • Bake the pie for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, reduce the temperature to 175°C and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, so that the apples become really soft.
  • Remove the pie from the oven and let it rest for 1 hour at room temperature before serving.

Apple Pie Recipe Tips

As you can see, we use Granny Smiths for this apple pie recipe. This is because Granny Smiths offer the perfect combination of tart and juicy flavours. To make the best apple pie, never reach for old apples; instead, try to get fresh Granny Smiths. Also, remember to peel, core, and chop the apples before using them!
